trowel Hazor Lower City Excavations: Dr. Ebeling is partnering with the head of this project in Israel. The site is the location of an extensive Bronze Age city. Because of the close connection between Dr. Ebeling and the director, there are lots of opportunities for you to engage in spin-off projects through UExplore and Honors, both of which would provide some funding. trowel Archaeological Institute of America's Field School Database: Lists field schools from across the globe. The database is searchable and is one of the most comprehensive and easy to use lists out there.

trowel American Schools of Oriental Research: The source for information about field schools in the Near East and Egypt. Membership required.

 trowel Institute for Field Research: They not only have information about various field projects but they also offer scholarships to students who participate.

Help for Paying for a Field School

trowel Honors Program Research Grants: The UE Honors Program has funding available for Honors students.

trowel Study Abroad Credit: $500 credit from Student Financial Services APPLIED TO YOUR FALL BILL for students participating in a summer program abroad. Contact studentfinancialservices@evansville.edu or stop by the office for more information.

trowel UExplore Undergraduate Research: Work with one of your professors to apply for this one.

trowel American Archaeology Abroad Scholarship: AAA awards $1500 scholarships for any undergraduate accepted into an archaeological field school abroad which the AAA sponsors.

trowel Jane C. Waldbaum Archaeological Field School Scholarship: The Archaeological Institute of America provides five scholarships worth $1000 to students who want to attend an archaeological field school. You must be a junior or senior at the time of application and have had NO prior field experience, which means you CANNOT have taken ARCH340 Field Techniques in Archaeology prior to applying.

trowel American Society for Overseas Research Awards: ASOR has a number of grants and fellowships available for students who want to participate in a field school in the eastern Mediterranean.

trowel The Register of Professional Archaeologists Scholarship: You do not have to be a professional archaeologist to get this one.  It is available to students registering for RPA approved field schools.  Follow the link for Continuing Professional Education Program.

trowel Biblical Archaeology Society: BAS offers up to $1000 for students who cannot otherwise afford to excavate abroad.

trowel The Gilman International Scholarship: Open to any student who has a Pell Grant. Will help fund study travel abroad.

trowel The Etruscan Foundation: This organization offers scholarships of up to $2000 for people interested in excavating at any site in Italy from any time period or culture (the site need not be an Etruscan one).  Applicants must be a member of the Etruscan Foundation, but a student membership is very inexpensive.

trowel Prestigious Scholarships: There are some scholarships available to a select few outstanding students, which may be used to help support participation in a field school that meets certain parameters.

trowel Minority Scholarships: If you qualify as a minority, the AIA and SCA have a joint scholarship for which you may apply.

trowel UE Honors Program: If you are an honors student, there are funds available to you that are not available to the general student population. This link leads to an application for these funds.

trowel Phi Kappa Phi honors Society Study Abroad Scholarships: You do not need to belong to the Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society to apply for their study abroad scholarship, you just need a GPA between 3.75 and 4.0.

trowel The Classical Association of the Midwest and South Field School Award: CAMWS offers a $2000 award to those who want to work on a site in the Greco-Roman world.  You must be a member of CAMWS to be eligible but the membership is a small price to pay for a chance to win such a big prize.

trowel Scholarship Opportunities for Women at the Center for American Archaeology in Kampsville, IL: The CAA conducts an annual field school specifically aimed at training women archaeologists.

trowel Scholarships for Native American Students: If you are Native American, this is a great resource.

trowel The Gilman McCain: For students who have a parent in the military.

trowel Sacramento Archaeological Society, Inc. Student Scholarship Site: Anyone from around the country may apply for this one, although they favor anyone who can come to Sacramento in person to relate how their summer experience went.

trowel The Sportula: Microgrants for Classics Students: The Sportula is a no-questions-asked organization focused on supporting Classics and Classics-adjacent undergrad and grad students in the Americas. All you need to inform the Sportula is the amount you need and your accepted method of payment. Currently, the Sportula can only send funds through Venmo, Paypal, and Zelle.

trowel SAA Native American Scholarships: Another source for students of Native American heritage.

trowel Cheryl L. Wase Memorial Scholarship for the Study of Archaeology: This is offered through the SAA. GPA requirements apply.

trowel American Center for Oriental Research Jordan: ACOR offers a number of scholarships for students interested in attending a field school in Jordan. Citizenship requirements apply to some of these scholarships.

trowel Elizabeth Bartman Museum Internship Scholarship: This scholarship supports any student doing a museum internship in the US or abroad.

trowel Fund for Education Abroad: Supports students from underrepresented populations.

trowel The Esherick-Ye Family Foundation: For students attending a field school in China.

trowel Society for Classical Studies (SCS)/American Philological Association (APA): Comprehensive listing with multiple scholarships/fellowships available for students pursuing education in Classical studies. Many opportunities for funding travel and excavation for both graduate and undergraduate students.
