At a few key points in your college career you are going to need a letter of recommendation from one or more of your professors. Competition for graduate schools, jobs, scholarships, and volunteer opportunities is fierce; a good letter of recommendation can tip the balance in your favor. If a professor agrees to write a letter for you, he/she will be doing you a very big favor. It can take hours to research and compose a letter that gives you a good chance of reaching your goal. Therefore, when asking for a letter, do so with respect and provide your professor with information that will help him/her help you.

Below is a link to a form intended to help the process of writing a recommendation go as smoothly as possible for both you and your professor. Fill out the form completely and bring it with you when you ask for a letter of recommendation. If you need more than one letter, fill out a form for each request.

Schedule an appointment to bring this form to your professor so that the two of you have time to discuss what you are hoping to do.  This information will be of great use to your professor.
