At a few key points in your college career you are going to need
a letter of recommendation from one or more of your professors.
Competition for graduate schools, jobs, scholarships, and volunteer
opportunities is fierce; a good letter of recommendation can tip the
balance in your favor. If a professor agrees to write a letter for
you, he/she will be doing you a very big favor. It can take hours to
research and compose a letter that gives you a good chance of
reaching your goal. Therefore, when asking for a letter, do so with
respect and provide your professor with information that will help
him/her help you.

the process of writing a recommendation go as smoothly as possible
for both you and your professor. Fill out the form completely and
bring it with you when you ask for a letter of recommendation. If
you need more than one letter, fill out a form for each request.
Schedule an appointment to bring this form to your professor so
that the two of you have time to discuss what you are hoping to do.

- Email your request for a letter of recommendation to your professor.
- Drop the request in the professor's box without speaking with him/her first.
