Q:  Is there gender discrimination still in museums and professional archaeology?

Surface survey VCP

Yes, but it is getting better. A few scholars in senior positions at museums and universities hold on to the belief that men should do macho excavation work outside while women should process finds in the safety of a storeroom or museum. Fortunately, times are changing and few Americans under the age of 60 hold these beliefs. In other countries the stereotypes are dying more slowly. Determined women and men working in Europe, North Africa, and the Near East have been breaking the traditional stereotypes little by little. Don't be intimidated when you encounter the glass ceiling, grab a sledge hammer and forge a path others can follow!
