Yes, but it is getting better. A few scholars in senior positions at
museums and universities hold on to the belief that men should do macho
excavation work outside while women should process finds in the safety
of a storeroom or museum. Fortunately, times are changing and few
Americans under the age of 60 hold these beliefs. In other countries the
stereotypes are dying more slowly. Determined women and men working in
Europe, North Africa, and the Near East have been breaking the
traditional stereotypes little by little. Don't be intimidated when you
encounter the glass ceiling, grab a sledge hammer and forge a path
others can follow!
