Q: I am not doing as well in my classes as I would like. What can I do?

- Spend more time studying. For most college classes you should be spending at least 1-2 hours studying outside of class for every hour you spend in class. Language and science classes require even more time if you expect to perform well. If you are putting in this amount of time and are still not doing as well as you would like, you may need to be spending even more time hitting the books.
- Visit your professor to ask for help. Bring papers and/or homework assignments before they are due so that your professor may look these documents over.
- Some classes have tutors available. Professors will announce hours and locations of tutoring sessions in class. Take advantage of these resources.
- Form a study group with one or more other students in the class. Sometimes your fellow students can help you understand difficult material.
- Turn off all gadgets (TV, radio, iPod, Facebook, e-mail and especially the cell phone) when you study. Work in a quiet place without distractions.
