The Scuola Metafisica was an art movement that focused on dreamlike images and provided a foundation for both the Dada and the Surrealist movements. De Chirico’s use of long shadows and empty spaces created a quiet solitude and loneliness that later artists used to associate images with the thoughts and dreams of an individual.
