Day 21 Week 05

Marcel Duchamp, Bicycle Wheel, 1913

The Dada Movement arose in Switzerland during World War I in reaction to the war and the circumstances which led to it. These artists supposed that since rational thinking had led to the treaties that made the war possible, then irrational thinking was the only way to counteract it. The artists of the Dada Movement used chance and subconscious working methods to create works that lacked “rational thinking.” Marcel Duchamp was one of the most famous members of the movement.
