THIRD SEMESTER PROJECTS

Third Semester Students:
This to be a transitional semester in the painter's development, and this will be a semi-directed term with some assigned elements. The intention is to create a cohesive visual vocabulary and foster self-motivated working habits. Experimentation and an emphasis on developing a visual "style" will dominate course work. Third semester students will be required to submit a proposal of intended work and a schedule of personal deadlines, meet with the instructor twice a week, and make slides of all finished works. There are four thematic elements which must be incorporated into the proposed intended work. They are:

  • the still life
  • the human figure
  • architectural space
  • serial progression
After a student has met these thematic elements, the semester is open to self-directed expressions of painted imagery. Any media, scale, etc. Space will be available for third semester students in the Art House (224 Frederick). This semester there will be an emphasis on the geneological and historical. It may manifest itself in the choice of research topics, materials, subject, scale, etc.

FOURTH SEMESTER PROJECTS

Fourth Semester Students:
Emphasis is on the continued development of a visual vocabulary and a cohesive body of work. Fourth Semester students will be responsible for submitting a proposal of work and a schedule of deadlines, meet with instructor once a week, and make slides of all finished works. Students need not work during ART 340 class time, but should be available to participate in critiques. Working space will be available in the Art House for fourth semester students.
