Day 23 Week 05
Franz Kline, Painting Number 2, 1954
The artists of the Abstract Expressionist movement worked in a highly gestural fashion, applying paint to a surface with reckless abandon. Some of these artists believed that the process of creating a painting should be shared with an audience. These Action painters, as they were dubbed by the critic Harold Rosenberg, worked in a reactive process based on subconscious processes called psychic automatism.
