Day 07 Week 02
Sir Joseph Paxton, Crystal Palace, 1851, London, cast iron architecture
The design of the Crystal Palace used cast iron and glass, two materials which had not been used in large scale building. By introducing these materials to architecture, Paxton influenced others to integrate new materials like steel, glass, and concrete into their architectural designs. By the 20th Century most buildings used a combination of two or more of these building materials.
