Many students enjoy taking a course   
at Harlaxton during the summer.  Whether you are a student who is unable to study abroad for a full semester, or a student who wants to return to Harlaxton Manor, summer courses are a great way to earn credit while expanding your global experience.

SOC 105- Introduction to Sociology
    Offered: Summer Semester at Harlaxton
    Description:  This is an introductory course designed to increase your
    knowledge of sociology and its concepts and theories. We will explore the
    basic social institutions, systems of inequality, and social forces that shape
    the world in which we live. Our main focus will be on the intersections of
    social institutions and how they impact our lives.  (3 credits)  
    Prerequisite: Intro Sociology or Intro Psychology, or Instructor 
    Permission. All majors welcome!

SOC 386- Death and Dying
    Offered: Summer Semester at Harlaxton
    Description:  This course explores thanatology- the study of death- using a
    sociological lens. We will examine how society shapes attitudes and
    behaviors toward dying, death, and bereavement. Topics of study include:
    cultural traditions, rituals, practices, and attitudes toward death, self-
    awareness and value identification concerning death and dying, grief and
    bereavement, the impact of death and dying across the life span, and end-
    of-life planning. In addition, we will compare the death and dying attitudes     and practices of the United States and the United Kingdom. An essential
    course for students in the social, biological, or health sciences. (3 credits)
    Prerequisite: Intro Sociology or Intro Psychology, or Instructor
