SYLLABUS REQUIRED TEXT:
Designing with type: a basic course in typography, by James Craig and William Bevington; edited by Susan E. Meyer.-4th ed. ISBN 0-8230-1347-2
This summer course merges the information covered in two different courses. We will closely follow the above text with a focus on typography and publication design. Lecture, lab, and critique formats. There will be a graded test, exercises, and projects to determine final grades. Most work will be done in the applications QuarkXpress, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator.
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
- one 100 Mb Zip disk formatted for Mac
- one 9" x 12" sketchbook
- two #2 pencils
- one black marker
- any small ruler or type ruler
- black matboard as needed
