Bramante, Tempietto, 1510, Rome

The Tempietto was a singular architectural work that influenced the High Renaissance style of architecture. Donato Bramante built this “little temple” with the financial backing of king Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain, the same monarchs who financially supported Columbus’s first voyage. After seeing the work, Pope Julius II awarded the redesign of St. Peter’s Basilica to Bramante.
