066-bayeux

Day 14 Week 03

Bayeux Tapestry, Bayeux, Normandy, France, c. 1077, embroidery

This piece of embroidery depicts the Norman Invasion of England by William the Conquerer.  The work is 230 feet long and probably was hung so that it wrapped around the inside of cathedral. In this section we see the story of the death of Harold II of England as he is hit in the eye with an arrow (figure on right side).
