Dancing Girl in Repose, from Mohenjo-daro, Indus Valley, c. 2500 BCE, bronze

A defiant teen girl stands with hand-on-hip, or at least that is the way British archaeologist Mortimer Wheeler referred to this statue. The work comes from the ancient city of Mohenjo-daro which is located in the Indus Valley in modern-day Pakistan. This culture was contemporary with the great cultures of Egypt and Mesopotamia, but only recently rediscovered.
