Egyptian culture and society were all knitted together by the religious belief in the afterlife. One who lived a good Egyptian life could, if they passed the judgement of the gods, continue to live beyond their own death. The rigidity in Egyptian art reflects the rigid rules and expectations that made Egypt the great culture that we know.
