Approaching a Gallery
Galleries are looking for unique images and committed artists who they can cultivate into a strong visual arts product. Artists who are interested in being represented by a gallery should go to the gallery and see the type of work that is being exhibited there.
Look for a gallery that carries artists whose work has some conceptual or visual association with the work that you make. Next, show the gallery a body of work that represents your vision. A body of work is a large group of works that have a cohesive form. Once you have a body of work,
contact the gallery and ask if they are taking on new artists. If so, compile good quality slides or other visual imagery along with a resume and artists statement. The artist statement should reflect the ideas, influences and other background that informs the artwork. Always include a self-addressed stamped envelope or make arrangements for the return of your slides, unless the gallery would like to keep them on file.
