Objective 2: Community outreach and classroom teaching. In the classroom, we have Little Foot the red-footed tortoise, Sam a diamondback terrapin, Pokey a wood turtle, and Stewie and Peepers the pink belly sideneck turtles. All but the terrapin, were captive bred in Florida. The terrapin was captive hatched in Maryland and needed a home. Students and Dr. Kalb give tours through the turtle rooms on campus and will take animals out to visit schools in the community. Meet our "teaching" turtles: Little Foot (a red-footed tortoise), Peepers and Stewie (pink-bellied side neck turtles), Sam (northern diamondback terrapin), and Pokey (North American wood turtle). These turtles are all about 1.5 years old. |
