COURSE OBJECTIVES: Primary Objective: To apply course material to improve your decision making, rational thinking, and problem solving in order to develop and maintain fulfilling, healthy interpersonal relationships. Supporting Objectives: 1. To gain knowledge of the interpersonal communication process through the study of primary and secondary source readings on theory and research. 2. To increase skill in selecting appropriate behaviors that will facilitate developing and maintaining fulfilling, healthy relationships. 3. To discuss and study various models of interpersonal communication behavior and their applications for different environments. 4. To individually research current topics within the field of interpersonal communication at in-depth levels and demonstrate that knowledge through well-written research papers and in-class presentations. 5. To increase ability to recognize communication variables as they appear in your own interpersonal interactions. 6. To explore the ways interpersonal communication is influenced by the context in which it takes place. 7. To practice written and oral communication skills through writing assignments, class discussions, and formal presentations. |
