An introductory course in the preparation, organization and presentation of several forms of public speaking. …. Attention will be given to research and analytical skills. Examination of the basic models and components of public address are discussed from the rhetorical origins of the discipline to current practices.

 COURSE OVERVIEW:

This course is designed to help you increase your speech communication awareness, knowledge and skills so you can effectively participate in democratic society. It includes numerous opportunities to speak with the class. The presentations will usually be critiqued in written and oral form, as time allows. Oral critiques will be given by the instructor and members of the class. These comments are intended to be constructive in nature and are for the purpose of helping you increase your communication awareness and effectiveness. You will be evaluated according to: (1) standards of effective public address as advocated by speech scholars as well as professional speakers, and (2) your progress during the class.
