About This Site

The ideas and information presented in this web site are intended to provide students and faculty with resourceful approaches to integrating and understanding evolution. The site presents information on a variety of issues surrounding the theory of evolution, including historical and biographical information regarding Darwin, the historical development of evolutionary biology culminating in the modern synthetic theory of evolution, critical assessments of creationism and creation science, evidence for an evolutionary view of life, common misconceptions of the theory of evolution, etc. The site is intended not only to give students and faculty historical and contemporary information regarding evolution, but to engage students in a pedagogical process that is both interactive and inquiry based. The site is designed so that students and faculty can engage in an ongoing campus dialogue regarding critical issues of evolutionary theory. It is our hope that by using and participating in this web site, students and faculty together will develop a meaningful understanding of evolution, and in doing so will understand the significance of this view as humanity conceives its place in the natural world.

While the navigation bar at the left of your screen will allow you to explore the site according to your interests, we recommend that you begin at the top and proceed downward. We would like to draw particular attention to two interactive elements of this site. With Ask An Evolutionist visitors have an opportunity to ask questions that will be fielded by a panel of experts. Visitors are invited to use the Unmoderated Discussion Forum to raise questions and carry forward an informed discussion regarding these issues.

This web site was made possible by a Faculty Innovational Instruction Grant (FIIG) received by Dale Edwards and Bradley Cohen from the University of Evansville's EXCEL program . We wish to acknowledge a special debt to Dick Connolly for contributing both text and editorial support to this site.
