General Information

My teaching philosophy reflects my liberal arts educational background. I feel students should have a broad a base in science as possible. It is important for students to gain fundamental knowledge about a subject, acquire the ability to understand concepts, and then apply what is learned to new situations and problems. My interests in teaching include both chemistry and biology, and in particular I enjoy teaching in the areas of ecology and natural resource management.

My primary teaching responsibility is in the chemistry department where I teach laboratories in both general chemistry (Chemistry 118) and organic chemistry (Chemistry 240). I teach environmental science in the Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) Program which is geared toward returning adult students. I also teach classes in UE's Environmental Studies program.

I recently had the opportunity to teach a semester at Harlaxton College, the English campus of the University of Evansville, in Grantham, England. In the fall of 2007, I spent the semester at Harlaxton Manor and taught Chemistry (Chem 100), Environmental Science (ES103), and Field Zoology (Biol 214).
